Designing with Restraint
When we set out to build the Plink frame, our first question wasn’t what features we could add. It was what features we could leave out.
A modern gadget is usually a hub of utility. It plays music, displays the weather, counts steps, and alerts you of news. But when a device does everything, it ceases to be an object and becomes a viewport into a chaotic web.
The Material Choice
Our shelf frame uses:
- Solid Wood: Turned locally and finished by hand.
- Low Power: A battery that lasts weeks by completely powering down between refreshes.
- Aspect Ratio: A classic aspect ratio where photos fit naturally.
By placing these boundaries, the e-ink frame becomes a piece of furniture rather than a gadget. It respects your room.
